Summary:

We are looking for the right Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner for our General Pediatric Surgery specialty, someone who works well in a fast-paced clinic setting. You will provide medical services within the education, training and experience of the physician assistant or nurse practitioner, through delegation of the supervising physician in the department of Pediatric Surgery.

Responsibilities :

  • The APP’s main responsibility will be outpatient clinic in Pediatric General Surgery at TCH West and Main Campus, with emphasis on West. This APP will have their own independent clinic as well as assisting in MD clinic.

  • Provide quality patient care within the education, training and experience of the physician assistant or nurse practitioner, through delegation of the supervising physician within an outpatient setting.
  • Work independently to assess, diagnose, treat, and educate patients, consulting with physician as needed
  • Provide appropriate clinical documentation using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system for all patient encounters
  • Perform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations for all patients
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, PAs, NPs, nurses and our resident team
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families and clinical team

 

 



Qualifications:

Physician Assistant:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Current license from Texas Medical Board to practice in the State of Texas
  • Current certification by National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Current BLS and PALS certification
  • DEA and DPS certifications
  • Fundamental knowledge of pediatric assessment and treatment
  • Knowledge of related OSHA, CLIA and JCAHO guidelines and requirements
  • 2 years pediatric patient care experience or surgery experience

Nurse Practitioner:

  • A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is required for new hires effective 03/01/17 or after, for employees hired before 03/01/17, an MSN is required for NPs licensed 01/01/03 or after, for employees hired before 03/01/17, either an MSN or a certificate program is required for NPs licensed prior to 01/01/03
  • Registered Nurse (RN) License from the Texas Board of Nursing
  • Advanced practice recognition from the Texas Board of Nursing (FNP, NNP, WHCNP or PNP-BC)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current BLS and PALS certification
  • DEA and DPS certifications
  • Fundamental knowledge of pediatric assessment and treatment
  • Knowledge of related OSHA, CLIA and JCAHO guidelines and requirements
  • 2 years pediatric patient care experience or surgery experience
