Summary:

We are looking for the right Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Acute Care certified for our Surgical Hospitalist specialty at our Main Campus location in Houston, someone who works well in a fast-paced hospital setting. You will provide medical services within the education, training and experience of the physician assistant, through delegation of the supervising physician in the department of Pediatric Surgery.

The Surgical Hospitalist handles a wide variety of patients collaborating regularly with other specialty groups supporting a 24/7, 365-day a year department. This position includes inpatient/surgical emergency center consultations, and perioperative coverage.

Responsibilities :

  • Provide quality patient care within the education, training and experience of the nurse practitioner, through delegation of the supervising physician within in inpatient settings
  • Work independently to assess, diagnose, treat, and educate patients, consulting with physician as needed
  • Provide appropriate clinical documentation using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system for all patient encounters.
  • Perform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations for all patients Participate in daily rounds for pediatric surgery patients
  • Perform minor surgical procedures independently
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, PAs, NPs, nurses and our resident team
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families and clinical team
  • Responsible for inpatient/surgical emergency center consultations
  • Collaborate with 5 specialties: general pediatric surgery, urology, plastic surgery, ENT and orthopedics

 



Qualifications:

  • A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is required for new hires effective 03/01/17 or after
  • For employees hired before 03/01/17, an MSN is required for NPs licensed 01/01/03 or after
  • For employees hired before 03/01/17, either an MSN or a certificate program is required for NPs licensed prior to 01/01/03
  • Broad knowledge of nursing functions and medical terminology
  • Broad knowledge of adult learning principles and how to apply these principles to teaching
  • Ability to operate all types of equipment and perform routine and special procedures used in the daily advanced nursing care of children
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities
  • Specific skills are those referred to in the Delineation of Special Procedures
