We are searching for a Director of Health Information Management – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you’ll provide leadership to and management of the Health Information Management Department in its role of administering health records and clinical documentation. In this position you will recruit, retain and develop associated staff and implements technologies as necessary to continually improve the organization’s use, and administration of its health records and documentation integrity. Lastly, you will be responsible to develop, implement and monitor appropriate policies and procedures, thereby assuring timely, accurate and confidential maintenance of patient data for clinical practices, medical education applications, academic research, and financial performance across the enterprise.

Responsibilities :

  • Develops and oversees internal and vendor serviced processes in HIM and ensure that the HIM processes are evaluated against the organization’s internal and external information needs
  • Supervises and plans process improvement activity and content quality of the medical record
  • Responsible for the enterprise-wide release of medical information from the medical record or other sources of stored patient data
  • Develops Quality of Health Information control processes and works with Medical Staff committees, Electronic Record committees, enterprise-wide Process Improvement and
  • Documentation Improvement committees, others in their needs for data concerning the completion of the medical record, accuracy of the medical record and comprehensiveness of the medical record
  • Prepares requested reports for HIM data for the IDS, Hospital, State and Federal agencies and other users in accordance with applicable policies, guidelines and privacy and security regulations
  • Ensures that information systems support current and future needs for a quality health record
  • Ensures HIM serves as an internal consultant for design of documentation tools, templates and workflows to ensure high quality data collection
  • Works closely with Information Services Clinical Application support, EMR training, as well as other department specific system support professionals to ensure quality health information includes but is not limited to design, testing, implementation, and education to ensure data integrity
  • Monitors staffing requirements and productivity levels by reviewing service measures and levels of staffing on a monthly or as-needed basis and requesting changes in staffing as necessary


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Seven years of medical record supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of health information management and Joint Commission standards
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, knowledge of the functions of other Hospital departments
  • In depth knowledge of computer application systems related to HIM and word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Ability to be adaptable and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, analytical skills, management skills, and team building and customer service skills
  • Experience with an electronic medical record is strongly preferred
