Summary:

We are searching for an Ambulatory Services Representative for the Surgery Welcome Desk – someone who works well in a fast-paced hospital setting. In this position, you’ll provide excellent customer service as the first contact for patients, providers and staff accessing ambulatory clinics for the department of surgery. You’ll be responsible for expediting the outpatient check-in processes by reviewing appointment status using electronic appointment system to view information regarding appointment, insurance, and history. Primarily this position deals with consent forms, and making sure those are correctly filled out. Lastly, you will need to communicate with the clinic liaison regarding factors impacting the patient visit and general clinic-patient flow.

This position will be located on the 5th Floor of our Clinical Care Center now known as the Mark A. Wallace Tower.  It's in the heart of Houston's medical center and part of our main campus. You will need excellent customer service skills as this role requires one on one patient interaction.

Responsibilities :

  • Welcomes the patient and family and responds to customer questions with prompt information and/or services related to appointment status, wait time, or unanticipated problems
  • Informs staff and providers of delays in patient flow that are occurring outside of clinic
  • Participates in clinic meetings to assist in planning optimal patient flow for session/day
  • Obtains and verifies patient’s demographic data (patient name, guarantor, insurance, address, telephone, etc.) for each encounter
  • Accurately obtains and collects appropriate consent forms necessary for procedures that will be performed
  • Obtains signatures on face sheet to document patient/guarantor understanding of release of information for billing purposes, general consent to treat, statement of financial responsibility and acknowledgment of testing in the event of healthcare worker exposure
  • Ensures that requisitions have necessary clinical, demographic, billing and payor information
  • Directs patient to next point of service (next appointment, lab area, welcome desk, and cashier)

 



Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of related experience in a customer service, administrative/business, healthcare, and/or teaching/training role(s). Preference will be for applicants to have worked in the medical industry. 
  • Knowledge of the managed care industry, appointment scheduling, related medical terminology and customer service concepts.
  • Ability to operate proficiently a personal computer and basic office equipment
  • Ability to demonstrate interpersonal skills and good verbal communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate quick decision-making and self-initiated work behaviors
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred
