We are searching for a Laboratory Technician - someone who works well in a fast-paced hospital setting. In this position, you’ll perform technical laboratory procedures, analyze data, and report results to be used for the diagnosis and treatment of disease resulting in the provision of quality patient care and to assure and improve laboratory customer satisfaction

Responsibilities :

  • Perform technical laboratory procedures
  • Prepares specimens for referred testing; maintains documentation
  • Acts as section lead to organize and prioritize the workload so that patient specimens are processed prior to scheduled specimen pickup by or delivery to reference laboratories and results are entered and released in an expedited manner
  • Validates specimen identification and appropriateness of sample type and size; processes specimens according to handling protocols defined in section manual
  • Maintains, prepares, labels preservatives appropriately and performs and documents required checks to ensure uninterrupted patient testing; monitors expiration dates
  • Performs and documents process improvement procedures
  • Generates and evaluates the scheduled overdue logs according to the written guidelines in the procedure manuals
  • Documents any tests/laboratories exceeding expected turnaround time and the corrective action taken
  • Performs audits, validation and maintenance and minor troubleshooting
  • Validates billing statements from reference laboratories against patient testing to assure results have been received for requested testing
  • Troubleshoots equipment problems and make minor repairs when applicable, by consulting the equipment manuals and manager
  • Participates in continuing education
  • Demonstrates theoretical and practical knowledge of the procedures and equipment; maintains skills and demonstrates competency via performance, documentation, and observation by supervisory staff
  • Performs other essential job-related functions
  • Assures compliance with College of American Pathologists (CAP) standards for referred testing
  • Acts as team leader in absence of the manager
  • Demonstrates commitment to team, flexibility, professional interpersonal, communication, critical thinking, and customer service skills
  • Demonstrates positive and effective interpersonal skills when dealing with patients/families, visitors, peers, and other health care team members
  • Demonstrates the ability to problem solve, identifies appropriate resources, adapt to ongoing change, and handle conflict management with a professional and supportive attitude








  • Associate’s Degree
  • Two (2) years of laboratory experience (A Bachelor’s Degree can substitute for one year of the experience requirement.)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) course for health care providers. Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Knowledge of hospital laboratory operations
  • Ability to operate a PC and other laboratory equipment
  • Ability to apply theoretical knowledge to clinical work and demonstrate solid critical thinking skills to troubleshoot problem
  • Ability to speak proficiently in English and Spanish is preferred (must pass and maintain the Healthcare Language Interpretation Assessment by MasterWord Interpreter Services)
  • Associate’s Degree with MLT certification OR Bachelor’s Degree is strongly preferred
  • Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification or Medical Laboratory Specialist (MLS) certification issued by the American Society for clinical Pathology (ASCP) is preferred
