We are searching for a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - someone who works well in a fast-paced critical care setting. In this position you’ll work under the supervision of the practice physician(s) and work collaboratively with other members of the health care team to render age appropriate care for critically ill children with a variety of acute and chronic illnesses. You will be required to practice under established protocols and will assume independent responsibility in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of treatment and procedures.

Responsibilities :

Provide age and developmentally appropriate care for the neonate through young adult on the Critical Care Medicine (CCM) Service or consult
Perform comprehensive history and physical assessment
Assess, diagnose, and develop a plan of care, prescribes treatment and evaluate the care of patients
Order and interpret primary diagnosis based on history, physical assessment and diagnostic findings
Communicate the plan of care for each patient to appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team
Perform appropriate procedures to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients in the PICU
Assure family and patient participation in care and care decisions
Ensure that appropriate documentation for each patient is complete and up-to-date
Respond to Rapid Response events and provide critical interventions.
Serve as a clinical resource for other members of the multidisciplinary team
Attend and participate in departmental education opportunities
Membership on hospital-wide and departmental committees
Advance patient care delivery and multidisciplinary approach to care through the application of researched, evidenced-based practice standard
Actively pursue education opportunities for ongoing professional growth
Actively participate in Advanced Practice Providers administrative meetings and decisions pertaining to the practice and development in the division of critical care
Serve as clinical trial investigator and/or participant in multiple phases of critical care section-sponsored research


Nurse Practitioner:
A Master’s Degree in Nursing
Current, valid, unencumbered license as a registered nurse (RN) from the Texas Board of Nursing
Current certification – initial certification and maintenance of certification by national certifying bodies recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner (NP),
Advance practice recognition from the Texas Board of Nursing (ACPNP)
Fundamental knowledge of pediatric assessment and treatment
Current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support for health care providers
Current Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
Physician Assistant
Master’s degree
Licensed and certified as a physician assistant
Fundamental knowledge of pediatric assessment and treatment
Current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support for health care providers
Current Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
