Summary:

We are searching for an Ultrasound Generalist – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you’ll perform exceptional quality routine and specialized Ultrasound procedures at the request licensed independent practitioner for interpretation by radiologists. The Generalist integrates scientific knowledge; technical skills, patient interaction and compassionate care resulting in diagnostic information, and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of the procedure. You must demonstrate an understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology and medical terminology. They must possess, utilize, maintain and enhance knowledge of radiation safety and protection for self, patients and others. The Generalist is a liaison between patients, radiologist and other members of the support team. The Generalist must think critically, use independent, professional and ethical judgment in all aspects of their work, and they must engage in continuing education to include their area of practice to enhance patient care, public education, knowledge and technical competence. They are responsible for patient care, appropriate documentation, quality control, and quality improvement, and they provide training, education and mentoring to students, technologists, nursing, residents, fellows, staff and others.

Responsibilities :

  • Assesses factors that may contraindicate the procedure; such as, medication contraindications, patient risk for reaction to medications, patient history, laboratory results, insufficient patient preparation or artifacts
  • Based on order, determines type and dose of contrast agent to be administered based on patient’s age, weight and medical/physical status
  • Provides information to patients, health care providers, students and the public concerning the role and responsibilities of individuals in the profession
  • Performs routine, STAT, urgent, and on-call procedures while accurately demonstrating understanding of anatomy and pathology through proper imaging techniques
  • Recognizes examination findings that may require immediate clinical response and notifies the interpreting radiologist
  • Responsible for precise, complete and accurate data entry and image management in appropriate technology infrastructure: EPIC, PACS, etc.
  • Applies patient safety principles during all aspects of Ultrasound procedures, including assisting and transporting patients
  • Reports all equipment issues to Bio-Med as issues are observed and follows up with manager or designee within one hour
  • Responsible for quality control activities on the equipment and collaborates with appropriate parties to resolve image quality issues
  • Seeks opportunities to assist in overall patient care activities: assists radiologist and others as requested or needed
  • Elicits confidence and cooperation from the patient, public and other healthcare providers by providing timely communication and effective instruction

 

 



Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a formal diagnostic Radiology program
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) awarded by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography
  • Broad knowledge of ultrasound physics and procedures; understanding of ultrasound principles that are developmentally appropriate for ages 0 – adulthood and operation of all required equipment including troubleshooting when necessary of the equipment, including automated processors, copying/digitizing film equipment, R.I.S., and PACS
  • Basic life support and medical terminology understanding is required
  • Must be articulate, courteous and supportive in dealing with patients, parents, nursing, faculty, administrative and departmental personnel so that excellent customer service and positive guest relations are achieved
  • Must honor confidentiality and independently scan patients by following the established protocols
  • Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written skills and be able must utilize basic office equipment; such as fax
  • Preferable if able to demonstrate bilingual skills
