Summary:

We are searching for an Assistant General Counsel – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you’ll support the Director of the Legal Department in providing legal counsel and guidance. You will be responsible for major legal functions and will interact with state and federal agencies as appropriate. You will also support functions involved in revenue cycle or claims management and provide counsel, as appropriate, regarding contractual agreements entered into. You will work with and serve as a liaison to outside counsel, as appropriate and will participate in meetings and serve on committees as appropriate. Lastly, you will assist in the management of the internal operations of the Legal Department.

Responsibilities :

 

  • Provides legal guidance relating to regulatory, transactional and operational issues, including responsibility for the following major legal functions
  • Provides legal counsel and guidance, including written legal opinions and memoranda, to Boards, executives, and management
  • Identifies the need for educational presentations relating to legal issues and provides, participates in, or arranges for such presentations
  • Advises, directs, and performs preparation, review and revision of contractual arrangements and policies relating to corporate operations
  • Appropriately coordinates work on contracts with Assistant General Counsel – Contracts
  • Assists in the execution and archiving of contractual agreements
  • Actively participates in hospital and Medical Staff committee meetings
  • Reviews legal invoices and assists the Director-Legal Department with departmental budgetary activities
  • Assists in management of departmental operations and supervises department staff, including a paralegal


Qualifications:

 

  • J.D. degree
  • License to practice law in Texas
  • Four (4) year’s experience in advising large corporations either at a law firm or in-house
  • An extensive knowledge of healthcare and business law
  • Strong medicaid/medicare reimbursement experience preferred
  • Health Insurance and experience with the Texas Department of Insurance preferred.
