We are searching for an Assistant Director of Facilities Operations – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you’ll provide leadership for the technical, administrative, financial, and human resource functions of the Facilities Operations department in the Engineering and Facilities Services business units.  Must have experience in engineering services in a hospital environment.

Responsibilities :

  • Provides operational and strategic direction to Facilities Operations staff to ensure services provided utilize safe and effective processes, comply with regulations of the authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ), and maintain optimum levels of patient, family, and staff satisfaction
  • Designs and implements high quality, cost effective management services and processes for designated areas of responsibility
  • Develops and implements short and long-term objectives, departmental policies and procedures, standards of work performance for 24 hour coverage, operation, maintenance and repair of building and utility systems
  • Ensures reliability of and consistent functioning of all equipment and utility services by managing a program of ongoing surveillance consistent with established internal Facilities Operations quality standards
  • Demonstrates accountability for strong financial management, budget development, variance analysis, and cost containment
  • Develops an annual operating budget to include personnel, equipment, utilities, materials, and supply needs for Facility Operations at all assigned locations
  • Monitors budget after approval to ensure department operation within approved budget
  • Maintains all equipment and supplies required in the provision of departmental services in optimum operational status with procurement or replacement of equipment as needed
  • Responsibilities include providing regular updates to the Director on resource utilization and significant events
  • Directs and manages staff, which involves direct and indirect responsibilities for interviewing, selection, orientation, performance evaluations, and performance management
  • Provides in-service and continuing education for department staff
  • Recommends positions required for effective department operation and makes recommendation for hiring in accordance with HR policies
  • Demonstrates ownership and accountability for assigned responsibilities, customer service and professional behavior through personal work ethic, teamwork and effective communication skills and committee or task force participation
  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, etc.) and experience with regulatory compliance and accreditation agencies (TJC, OSHA, EPA, etc.)
  • Ensures that all required inspections and certifications by agencies are maintained, including Fire and Life Safety Management
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director or the Director’s designee in the Director’s absence


Preferred Skills & Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree/MBA from an accredited university
  • Building Automation Systems experience
  • Healthcare facility management experience
  • Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM)
  • Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP)
  • Strong financial analysis and budgeting experience
  • Experience with Business Automation Systems



  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Four (4) years of experience in facilities (engineering) - healthcare or business management ld (a Bachelor’s degree may substitute for four years of the required experience
  • Six (6) years management experience in a facilities, healthcare, or business management capacity
  • Knowledge of facility management principles (facilities maintenance, operations, engineering, and environmental services)
  • Knowledge of regulatory and accrediting agency standards (TJC, Life Safety Code, OSHA,       CMS, and Texas Department of Health)
  • Knowledge of performance improvement and evaluation methods
  • Knowledge of financial budgeting and resource management
  • Knowledge of engineering responsibilities, including a thorough understanding of and the ability to use engineering documentation (mechanical, electrical and plumbing blueprints, specification manuals, and operating manuals)
  • Knowledge of building automation systems, energy management, CMMS functionality, and life cycle and failure analysis for both building systems and equipment management
  • Ability to lead and facilitate diverse groups to achieve defined outcomes in a reasonable time frame
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to deal effectively with patients, medical staff, administration and the public
  • Sound problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong planning, organizing, prioritizing, and delegating skills
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office software
