We are searching for a Director of Technology Support – someone who works well in a fast-paced hospital technology setting. In this position, you’ll be responsible for the strategy, management, integration, and implementation of information and telecommunications systems and their respective technologies in support of the clinical, financial, and strategic missions. This role is responsible for positioning the organization with appropriate information technology systems to react proactively to healthcare changes. You will ensure the development and implementation of systems which support the effective and efficient flow of patients and information across the system and maximize financial and clinical performance. You will also provide clear communication to all Hospital staff regarding directions and policies and procedures of technical support staff  Additionally, you will coach direct reports to improve management and communications skills while assisting in setting strategic direction of IS as it applies to Technology Services and Support.

Responsibilities :

  • Maintains the production operations platform with a 98% uptime record and initiates plans which will ensure or move the production operations to a 99.999% uptime environment
  • Disaster Recovery and Emergency Management within IS and coordination of those functions with the parallel enterprise functions
  • Maintains secure, stable and managed Network(s) and systems with documentation and well defined standards and metrics
  • Provides adequate firewall and secure remote access capabilities, with timely management reporting
  • Coordinates and cooperates as needed with internal and external auditors and audit projects
  • Integrates operations management to ensure systems reliability and compatibility as well as efficiency and effectiveness
  • Defines and structures operations staff to accommodate multiple hardware and software platforms and associated peripheral equipment
  • Performs constant monitoring of systems to determine capacity, throughput, sizing, and performance issues
  • Works with the Hospital management staff to prioritize technical support projects and set direction for technical support resources
  • Provides maintenance support and service for all information technology services within the Hospital and its remote locations
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures as needed to meet regulatory guidelines and/or customer needs
  • Prepares the annual budget; adheres to budget guidelines established for the department by analyzing department needs on at least a monthly basis and by efficient allocation of resources
  • Provides executive leadership for the Information Systems department and to the enterprise regarding information needs, design and utilization
  • Designs and manages a strong service organization, including retaining staff, developing staff, and restructuring where necessary
  • Develops relationships and explores opportunities that support the clinical, financial, and strategic objectives of the institution
  • Provides access to information technology in supporting patient care, education, and research
  • Provides business process analysis and reengineering whenever possible
  • Provides an ability to recruit and retain talented staff while mentoring existing staff
  • Provides persuasive presentation of the value of technology, consensus building, and consulting skills
  • Provides management of system integrators and subcontractors
  • Possesses the ability to bridge information systems technology to users
  • Analyzes, evaluates, and proposes network, security, telecommunications, storage, database and technology architecture: hardware, software, protocols, topology, and strategy
  • Evaluates additional software and hardware for usefulness and compatibility
  • Monitors system utilization and capacity and provides capacity planning for peripherals including servers, storage, devices
  • Provides leadership for tactical and strategic planning for all network related activities
  • Negotiates contracts, integrates multiple vendors that provide services, and researches/evaluates/recommends/installs network wide services
  • Analyzes network problems and resolves


  • Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to hospital management or information systems (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience with information/computer technology in a corporate setting and a minimum of 5 years of experience in a supervisory role in a technological setting is required, preferably in the health care environment
  • Experience with applications in clinical areas is highly desirable
  • Prior experience desired in a broad range of technologies, including those technologies employed and considered in the near term
  • Project management and planning, process mapping, group presentation, leadership, team building, written and verbal communication, analytical and organizational skills
  • A broad understanding of complex heterogeneous technologies and the ability to synthesize new technical information into existing structures
  • Abilities to listen effectively, respond to sensitive inquiries or complaints, cope with an ambiguous or changing environment and have an unfailing sense of humor
  • Knowledge of current business practices and computing systems, interfaces, and IDS standard software and hardware requirements
  • Must express an understanding of health care issues, information systems, management issues, and current trends
  • Must be experienced as a facilitator, diplomat, and negotiator/mediator
  • Must express high energy, action oriented behavior, and creative approaches to information systems issues and problems
  • Have a demonstrated record of bringing together diverse functions and build effective teams involving all categories of health care employees
