Summary:

We are searching for a Medical Technologist – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will perform routine and special procedures to obtain data or prepare products for the diagnosis and treatment of disease and the provision of quality patient care. Our diagnostic (clinical) Immunology laboratory is CAP and CLIA certified and exclusively offers high complexity, non-waived and laboratory developed tests that include Flow Cytometry, Immunophenotyping, Flow cytometry-based neutrophils function test, lymphocyte function test, and a cell culture based assay, Natural Killer (NK) cell function test.

Responsibilities :

 

  • Performs specimen testing in a timely manner, troubleshoots analytical problems maintains incident reports, turnaround times (TAT), quality control, instrument maintenance/troubleshooting and other associated specimen testing processes, procedures, and documents according to the laboratory’s standard operating procedures
  • Accept or reject samples based on the lab’s sample acceptance or rejection criteria
  • Responds to emergency situations and send diagnostic alerts quickly to ordering providers
  • Communicates any quality control problems to the appropriate supervisor, QA coordinator and/or Director as they occur
  • Orders supplies as needed to maintain set inventory levels and complete patient orders
  • Determines suitability of supplies at every step of handling from receipt to final disposition and immediately quarantines and/or discards unsuitable supplies
  • Performs and documents reagent quality control and instrument checks daily, weekly, quarterly to ensure their proper functioning according to the laboratory’s guidelines
  • Performs or assists with troubleshooting reagent QC and instrument problems, evaluation of new instruments and procedures, and writing of new procedures
  • Informs the Supervisor or tech-in-charge or Quality Assurance Coordinator of any problems as they occur or of potential problems in a timely manner to avoid instrument down-time
  • Participates in continuing education
  • Maintains expertise in specialty area; assists in staff competency checking and creating training materials
  • Assists with regulatory (CAP, JCAHO, FDA, AABB) compliance and inspections

 



Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Laboratory Science, Chemical, Physical or Biology
  • At least one of the following certifications:
  • Medical Technologist License from any state (MT-STATE)
  • Medical Technologist (MT-AAB) certification issued the American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB)
  • Medical Technologist (MT-AMT) certification issued American Medical Technologists (AMT)
  • Clinical Laboratory Specialist certification issued by NCA
  • Or one (1) ASCP Technologist Certifications:
  • Technologist in Blood Banking (BB)
  • Technologist in Chemistry (C)
  • Technologist in Hematology (H)
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)/Medical Technologist (MT)
  • Technologist in Microbiology (M)
  • Technologist in Molecular Biology (MB)/Technologist in Molecular Pathology (MP)
  • Knowledge of Immunology, blood bank theory, CBC/Differential counts and Immunological methods, laboratory operations, CAP requirements and processes, computers, multiple/varied clinical instrumentation and equipment sterile techniques, Cell culture, flow cytometry, Microsoft Word and Excel, spreadsheet development
  • Ability to operate a PC and other equipment including, Biosafety cabinets, CO2 Incubators, flow cytometers, T-Q prep, microscopes, centrifuges, water baths
  • Good communication (typed, written and verbal), people and customer service skills are required, especially in resolving problems and conflicts
  • Attention to detail and ability to remember and comfortably manage highly-detailed procedures, reports and record-keeping is vital
