Summary:

Unique opportunity for Pathologists’ Assistant to participate in community expansion of Anatomic Pathology services for leading children’s hospital with small group of Pathologists and current case volume < 5000 pediatric specimens. Surgical Pathology duties include accessioning, specimen triage and grossing, frozen sections, special procedures, and specimen preparation for transport. Duties also include operational oversight for the cryostat facility and community-based AP services to ensure high quality service and compliance with regulatory standards. Position to include occasional travel to additional locations within 50 miles for training and special procedures.

 



Responsibilities :

  • Utilizes advanced practice knowledge and skills to perform routine and complex procedures related to patient specimens received in Anatomic Pathology.
  • Oversees laboratory operation to ensure appropriate facilities, and test performance characteristics to ensure high quality service and regulatory compliance.
  • Identifies, facilitates and participates in Performance Improvement projects that enhance operations and test performance within Anatomic Pathology.
  • Develops and prioritizes service based goals which support the Anatomic Pathology service as a whole and are congruent with the strategic plan for Pathology support of clinical services at community Pathology Campuses.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships and communicates relevant information, in a timely manner, to medical staff, interdepartmental liaisons, and service based staff.
  • Supports leadership by providing guidance to other Pathology staff to ensure the safe operations and appropriate staff training and competency maintenance.

 

 



Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelors Degree (Masters Degree preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years experience in Anatomic Pathology
  • Preferred 2 years Management/ Leadership experience 
  • Certified by ASCP as a Pathologists’ Assistant, PA (ASCP)
  • Meet CLIA requirements for high complexity testing
  • Demonstrate proficient dissection and dictation skills with pediatric surgical pathology specimens
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety standards
  • Possess strong organizational, communication, customer service and computer (LIS, HIS) skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Prior experience to include management/leadership preferred
