We are looking for the right Physician Assistant or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Acute Care certified for our Congenital Heart Surgery specialty, someone who works well in a fast-paced hospital setting. You will provide medical services within the education, training and experience of the nurse practitioner, through delegation of the supervising physician.

We are looking for the next addition to our team who can thrive in a busy academic hospital environment that provides continuous professional experience through inpatient management and independent performance of multiple surgical procedures. You will consistently update your skills and knowledge relevant to pediatric practice as you incorporate evidence-based practice into your day-to-day role.

Responsibilities :

  • Provide quality patient care within the education, training and experience of the nurse practitioner, through delegation of the supervising physician within in inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Work independently to assess, diagnose, treat, and educate patients, consulting with physician as needed
  • Provide appropriate clinical documentation using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system for all patient encounters.
  • Perform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations for all patients
  • Participate in daily rounds for pediatric surgery patients
  • Perform minor surgical procedures independently
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, PAs, NPs, nurses and our resident team
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families and clinical team


Nurse Practitioner

  • A Masters Degree in Nursing 
  • Current, valid, unencumbered license as a registered nurse (RN) from the Texas Board of Nursing 
  • Current certification – initial certification and maintenance of certification by national certifying bodies recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing as a Nurse Practitioner (NP), PNP-AC
  • Advance practice recognition from the Texas Board of Nursing
  • Fundamental knowledge of pediatric assessment and treatment 
  • Current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support for health care providers
  • Knowledge of related OSHA and CLIA guidelines and requirements, general office tasks, confidentiality and filing system 
  • Proficiency with treatments such as nebulizer, ear irrigation, and dressing changes 
  • Familiarity with all business office machines, i.e., computer, multiline telephone, copier and fax machines

Physician Assistant

  • Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies 
  • Licensed and certified as a physician assistant
  • Fundamental knowledge of pediatric assessment and treatment
  • Current certification in American Heart Association Basic Life Support for health care providers
  • Current Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)
