Summary:

We are searching for an Ambulatory Services Representative II - someone who works well in a fast-paced hospital setting. In this position, you’ll provide excellent customer service as the first contact for patients, providers, and staff accessing ambulatory clinics. You will expedite the outpatient check-in and checkout processes by reviewing appointment statuses using an electronic appointment system to view information regarding appointment, insurance, and history. You will collect pre-visit payments and communicate with the clinic liaison regarding factors impacting the patient visit and general clinic-patient flow. Additionally, you will secure the financial integrity of the patient’s account by verifying benefits and obtaining referrals, authorizations, and pre-certifications.

Responsibilities :

Performs admission (Check-In/Welcome desk, PAR's, Registration, Past Pending)

  • Performs insurance authorization
  • Obtains and verifies patient demographic data for each encounter
  • Maximizes collection by reviewing patient notes for amounts quoted during pre-admission process and collects for non pre-admitted services as appropriate
  • References Hospital contractual agreements with insurance companies to obtain authorization for services
  • Verifies insurance benefits and identifies correct plan codes that drive reimbursement (i.e., Capitated allowance vs. per diem or discount of charges.)
  • Collects cash and deposits
  • Coordinates scheduling
  • Performs customer service and communication
  • Ensures that interpreter services are available for patients as needed
  • Coordinates communications including phone calls, pages, faxes, etc. in a friendly, professional, and timely manner
  • Welcomes and interacts with all patients, families and visitors in a professional, timely, age appropriate, and culturally sensitive manner
  • Responds to customer questions with prompt information and /or service related to appointment status, wait time, or unanticipated problems while being culturally sensitive
  • Performs other job-related functions
  • Assists with operations for clinical floors


Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of experience in customer service
  • Healthcare and/or Pediatric experience preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance terminology, and customer service concepts
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written
  • Good interpersonal skills, organization, and problem solving skills
  • Good time management skills
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and software efficiently
  • Ability to operate general clinic equipment
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred
