Scheduled to open in 2017, Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands is a 548,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art free-standing pediatric hospital designed, equipped and staffed exclusively to treat children and adolescents in The Woodlands and counties throughout Greater North Houston such as Montgomery, Walker, Grimes, Liberty, Harris, Polk, San Jacinto and Hardin counties. Our new facility will include 25 emergency center rooms, 32 acute rooms, 28 critical care rooms, 12 radiology rooms and 4 operating rooms. Summary:

We are searching for a Clinical Dietitian - someone who works well in a fast-paced hospital setting. In this position, you’ll assess nutritional needs of patients, develop and implement nutritional care plans, and communicate information to those in need in a manner developmentally appropriate for the ages of patients served (0-18 years).

Responsibilities :

  • Identifies patients in need of nutrition intervention through rounds, clinic schedule or daily/team census reports as evidenced by minimal nutrition issues not addressed
  • Provides age-appropriate assessment of all patients identified at nutrition risk per established timeframe/guidelines as measured by 95% compliance on medical record audit or through outpatient clinic processes as evidenced by minimal complaints from clinic staff/physicians
  • Calculates appropriate nutrition regimes to meet specific patient needs for children and adults, both inpatient and outpatient, (therapeutic diets, enteral or infant formula rates/modifications, TPN and other calorie sources)
  • Adapts nutrition plan to specific economic, social, cultural, and age-appropriate needs of patients to enhance compliance to therapy
  • Assesses and re-assesses response to therapy and adjusts plan accordingly as evidenced by 95% compliance on medical record audit
  • Provides individualized age-appropriate nutrition information to patients and/or family in both a written and verbal format, assures comprehension and re-educates as needed as evidenced by phone reports, chart notes and other documentation
  • Develops and reviews nutrition education materials for patients and/or families in coordination with patient education and other nutrition/medical services to meet needs of patients as evidenced by proactive identification of needs and project completion
  • Follows protocols of care and follows up per guidelines
  • Participates in discharge planning or patient care/case conferences on all assigned units/areas as evidenced by team evaluation, monthly reports and chart audits
  • Interacts with patient care team via verbal and written modes, follow-up on recommendations and care plans with team to ensure implementation or modification as evidenced by chart audit
  • Keeps informed of new developments, products, formulas and clinical practice related to pediatric nutrition or assigned area (i.e. Dialysis) as evidenced by a minimum of 6 hours/year CEU's in appropriate topics
  • Participates in research project in collaboration with service or department as evidenced by monthly report and observation
  • Develops and implements yearly objectives to enhance service and department, adjusting as needed as evidenced by quarterly meetings and project completion
  • Interacts at staff meetings, accepts projects/assignments as needed, volunteering for a minimum of 3 assignments/projects per year


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related fiel
  • Completion of ADA approved clinical program
  • One (1) year clinical experience in pediatrics is preferred
  • Must be registered Dietitian with the American Dietitian Association, licensed Dietitian in Texas
  • Membership in the American Dietetic Association is highly encouraged
  • Knowledge of nutrition, medical nutrition therapy and pediatrics
  • Ability to observe deficiencies and formulate actions to correct the situation, make assessments and recommendations, educate others on nutritional needs, and use word processing, spreadsheet and nutrition programs on a computer
