Scheduled to open in 2017, Texas Children’s Hospital The Woodlands is a 548,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art free-standing pediatric hospital designed, equipped and staffed exclusively to treat children and adolescents in The Woodlands and counties throughout Greater North Houston such as Montgomery, Walker, Grimes, Liberty, Harris, Polk, San Jacinto and Hardin counties. Our new facility will include 25 emergency center rooms, 32 acute rooms, 28 critical care rooms, 12 radiology rooms and 4 operating rooms. Summary:

We are searching for a Diet Technician - someone who works well in a fast-paced hospital setting. In this position, you’ll provide support to the clinical nutrition staff in a manner developmentally appropriate for the ages of patients served (0-18 years).

Responsibilities :

  • Collects relevant data to include review of the medical record, patient/family data and interview measured by 95% compliance on medical record audit
  • Re-screens all patients identified through computer system who have been at the hospital 7 days or longer and have not been seen by nutrition measured by 90% compliance on medical record audit
  • Determines appropriate risk level and intervention and documents plan in medical record with compliance of 95% as evidenced by medical record review
  • Performs weekly screen for specialized areas (Nurseries) and refers patients at risk to dietitian with documentation per departmental standards with 95% compliance per medical record audit
  • Performs appropriate follow up on patients identified at low/moderate risk or with admissions greater than 7 days per documentation and program guidelines with 95% compliance per medical record audit
  • Initiates calorie count studies per RD request or MD order as evidenced by zero complaints from Clinical staff
  • Calculates nutrient intake data per standards with 95% compliance as evidenced by medical record audit and zero complaints from clinical staff
  • Provides dietitian with pertinent information regarding food concerns, eating difficulties and other nutritional problems in a timely manner
  • Counsels patients on formula preparation, Food/Drug interactions or nutrition education per departmental guidelines
  • Determines readiness to learn and verifies comprehension of education
  • Documents in medical record on appropriate forms with 95% compliance as evidenced by medical record audit
  • Collects and inputs data as needed by team for research, PI or patient care within time period assigned per team review


Qualifications:

  • Completion of an approved Dietetic Technician program OR Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics or related field.
  • Registered with the American Dietetic Association or registry eligible preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of acute-care hospital experience preferred.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of pediatric hospital experience preferred.
