We are searching for a Clinical Social Work Specialist – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you’ll support the Manager of Social Work, Assistant Director of Child Life and Social Work, and Director of Patient and Family Services. You will be responsible for providing clinical expertise and direction in the field of Social Work throughout the system, coordinating the on-boarding and ongoing clinical supervision of licensed Social Workers, providing project leadership for inter and intradepartmental priorities and implementing solutions under the direction of leadership. You will also be expected to be available to provide consultative support at all hours. Lastly, you will be responsible for supporting the organization through various activities such as education on Social Work competencies, committee involvement, collaboration with Nursing, physicians and leadership on-call, including the Nursing Administrator on call and Administrator on Call.

Responsibilities :

  • Collaborates with social work team to assist in planning, implementation and evaluation of the treatment approach in learning to utilize theoretical knowledge, sound judgment and problem-solving
  • Acts as a clinical resource to staff and other members of the health care team
  • Serves as clinical expert for social work team in complex patient cases
  • Provides on-call clinical coverage for social work team to ensure expertise is available to staff regardless of work assignment and shift
  • Develops and maintains department core competencies program with goals to continuously monitor and develop specific social work clinical skills.
  • Creates validation criteria for staff to meet and develop competencies identified to ensure high quality of social work skill validation
  • Implements plan for direct observation of staff to validate ongoing skills
  • Oversees orientation process to ensure consistency and provides appropriate feedback/evaluation of progress
  • Reviews current department and unit-based orientation pathways and competencies annually and makes revisions as needed in collaboration with CTD and leadership
  • Keeps Manager, Social Work informed of orienteer’s progress and performance on an ongoing basis
  • Coordinates student program and clinical supervision programs, to include practicums, observations, and volunteer experiences
  • Conducts bio-psychosocial assessment and formulates intervention strategies for a comprehensive treatment plan
  • Ongoing coordination and reassessment of the Psychosocial Plan of Care


  • Master of Social Work Degree
  • Social Work License in the state of Texas
  • Five years of Social Work Experience
  • Knowledge of normal child development and age appropriate activities and the effects of hospitalization of development and coping
  • Ability to provide developmental assessments, to represent and communicate social work and psychosocial issues of pediatric health care to others
