Summary:

We are looking for the right Physician Assistant for our Surgical Hospitalist specialty at our West Campus location in Katy, someone who works well in a fast-paced hospital setting. This position is for Saturday and Sunday and one week day shift coverage only. The hours will be 6a-6p or 7a-7p. You will provide medical services within the education, training and experience of the physician assistant, through delegation of the supervising physician in the department of Pediatric Surgery.

The Surgical Hospitalist handles a wide variety of patients collaborating regularly with other specialty groups supporting a 24/7, 365-day a year department. This position includes inpatient/surgical emergency center consultations, operating room First-Assist, and perioperative coverage.

Responsibilities :

  • Provide quality patient care within the education, training and experience of the physician assistant, through delegation of the supervising physician within in inpatient, outpatient and operating room settings
  • Work independently to assess, diagnose, treat, and educate patients, consulting with physician as needed
  • Provide appropriate clinical documentation using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system for all patient encounters.
  • Perform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations for all patients Participate in daily rounds for pediatric surgery patients
  • Perform minor surgical procedures independently
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, PAs, NPs, nurses and our resident team
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families and clinical team
  • Provide coverage for operating rooms; as needed
  • Responsible for inpatient/surgical emergency center consultations Collaborate with 5 specialties: general pediatric surgery, urology, plastic surgery, ENT and orthopedics


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Current license from Texas Medical Board to practice in the State of Texas
  • Current certification by National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistant

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Master’s degree
  • Current BLS and PALS certification
  • Fundamental knowledge of pediatric assessment and treatment
  • Knowledge of related OSHA, CLIA and JCAHO guidelines and requirements
  • 2 years pediatric patient care experience or surgical experience
