We are searching for a First Assist Registered Nurse — someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you’ll assist the surgeon with specific pre-operative, intraoperative, and post-operative surgical procedures that are beyond the scope of practice for registered nurses without RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant) education and training. The RNFA functions interdependently with the surgeon and applies knowledge, skill, and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation.

Responsibilities :

  • Demonstrates clinical competence in providing age-appropriate and developmental nursing care for children and adults with congenital heart disease 
  • Proves clinical competence through collaboration with the surgeon during the preoperative phase of patient care
  • Consistently exhibits competence in the role of RNFA in collaboration with the surgeon during the intraoperative phase of patient care
  • Establishes competence in the role of RNFA in collaboration with the surgeon during the postoperative phase of patient care
  • Shows positive interpersonal skills, collaboration, communication, flexibility and commitment to teamwork through professional development


  • Bachelor degree in nursing, associate degree in nursing, or diploma in nursing
  • Bachelor of science in nursing preferred
  • Current RN license to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas
  • Two years of operating room nursing experience
  • Certification as an Operating Room Nurse (CNOR)
  • Completion of the RNFA Program and certified as a RNFA preferred
