Summary:

We are searching for a Coding Specialist III — someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will assign ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to inpatient, same-day surgery, observation, ER, and/or ambulatory records. This position will generate codes for the purpose of billing and research and provide the information to government and regulatory agencies.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret physician documentation to appropriately assign diagnosis and procedure codes
  • Monitor patient charges and determine the necessary coding to complete the account
  • Identify principle and secondary diagnoses, as well as procedures codes, from the electronic medical record
  • Utilize the encoder to generate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and/or CPT codes for diagnosis and procedures
  • Resolve coding problems and assist in physician research projects
  • Sequence diagnosis and procedures and generate appropriate billing
  • Check discharge dispositions and attending physician for accuracy
  • Complete neonatal information regarding birth weight, gestational age, TPN, ECMO, and the number of ventilator days
  • Extract data regarding blood types, number of units, and special unit stays
  • Calculates billable charges directly from operative reports and process spreadsheets including charge master e-bills
  • Provide ICD-10 and CPT codes for Business Services and physician office requests regarding non-billed on non-reimbursed claims
  • Answer inquiries from outpatient clinics and ancillary departments for appropriate assignment of codes
  • Facilitate coding education sessions (webinars, audio conferences, seminars, newsletters, etc.) by researching and presenting topics assigned by the manager
  • Identify accounts opened in error, accounts needing admit/discharge dates, and billing discrepancies
  • Conduct E/M abstraction


Qualifications:

Skills & Requirements 

 

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certification in either RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CSS-P, CPC, CPC-A, CIC, or COC
  • 4 years’ experience in coding
  • Experience using an encoder and/or an electronic medical record preferred
