Summary:

We are searching for a Research Operations Specialist – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will plan, support, and manage research laboratory operations.

Responsibilities :

  • Use independent judgment to assess and resolve building operations issues that impact research laboratories
  • Provide on-call support on a 24/7 basis to address and resolve research equipment alarms and building/mechanical infrastructure issues
  • Meet regularly with laboratory managers and principal investigators to proactively identify and solve issues
  • Manage building operations issues such as power problems, water shut-downs, emergency drills, etc, with research occupants regularly
  • Ensure that emergency management guidelines are in place for the research building, reviewing and updating them as needed
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures required to support research operations
  • Act as a liaison with internal and external partners to ensure positive collaborations for the research building
  • Negotiate contract and service-level agreements between stakeholders, research labs, and vendors
  • Establish project plans and conduct team meetings
  • Determine staff and resource needs by factoring in size, duration, scope, and project complexity
  • Ensure documentation is accurate and acceptable to Texas Children’s standards
  • Formulate testing and piloting of new processes and systems
  • Confirm user acceptance of changes, which includes developing positive working relationships/communication with users to aid the change
  • Estimate and control project fiscal requirements
  • Prepare cost analyses and budget estimates for research projects
  • Validate that invoices for services are accurate
  • Complete a monthly review of cost centers in roll-up, as well as identify and address budget issues or concerns
  • Develop annual operating budgets for cost centers
  • Maintain assigned metrics to demonstrate work performance


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma is required
  • Bachelor's Degree is preferred (will substitute for 4 years of experience)
  • 10 years’ experience in research administration, project management, and/or support is necessary
