Summary:

We are searching for a Physician Assistant or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Acute Care Certified to join our Surgical ICU team — someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you'll work collaboratively with other members of the health care team, including the attending physicians, resident physicians, and fellow physicians to provide comprehensive patient care in accordance with the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners.

Responsibilities :

Physician Assistant: 

  • Provides medical services that are within the education and training of the Physician Assistant within the scope of practice and delegation of the supervising physician
  • Utilizes advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data, and to manage a caseload of patients
  • Administers or provides medications as delegated by authorizing physician
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills and works to eliminate communication barriers
  • Provides patient care follow-up
  • Serves as an educational resource for the patient and family, community, and other health care professionals
  • Applies new knowledge relevant to population specific clinical practice
  • Demonstrates current professional, managerial, and/or technical knowledge and skills

Nurse Practitioner:

  • Daily utilization of advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data, and to manage a caseload of patients
  • Consistently demonstrates effective communication skills and works to eliminate communication barriers
  • Consistently serves as an educational resource for the patient and family, community, and other health care professionals
  • Consistently applies new knowledge relevant to pediatric nursing and clinical practice
  • Demonstrates current professional, managerial, and/or technical knowledge and skills
  • Demonstrates NP role behaviors consistent with the development of advanced nursing practice
  • Participates in departmental Quality Improvement program annually


Qualifications:

Physician Assistant Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Physician Assistant Certification from the Texas Medical Board
  • Broad knowledge of medical terminology and pathology, a broad knowledge of adult learning principles and how to apply these principles to teaching
  • Ability to operate all types of equipment and perform routine and special procedures used in the daily care of the specialty-specific population, the ability to work effectively with others, and the ability to demonstrate leadership qualities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree is Physician Assistant Studies
  • Pediatric or surgery experience as a Physician Assistant

Nurse Practitioner Qualifications:

  • A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is required for new hires effective 03/01/17 or after
    • For employees hired before 03/01/17, an MSN is required for NPs licensed 01/01/03 or after
    • For employees hired before 03/01/17, either an MSN or a certificate program is required for NPs licensed prior to 01/01/03
  • Registered Nurse (RN) License from the Texas Board of Nursing
  • Advanced practice recognition from the Texas Board of Nursing (PNP-AC)
  • Broad knowledge of nursing functions and medical terminology
  • Broad knowledge of adult learning principles and how to apply these principles to teaching
  • Ability to operate all types of equipment and perform routine and special procedures used in the daily advanced nursing care of children
  • Ability to work effectively with others
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities
  • Specific skills are those referred to in the Delineation of Special Procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced practice recognition form Texas Board of Nursing PNP-AC
  • Pediatric or surgery experience as a Nurse Practitioner
