Summary:

We are searching for a Risk Management Specialist — someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you’ll identify potential risks and provide assistance in the prevention and management of adverse outcomes for patients, visitors, and staff. You will assist in managing and coordinating investigations associated with hospital and general liability occurrences, claims, lawsuits, and grievances, as well as provide education on clinical risk management issues, committee involvement, collaboration with outside counsel, and assistance to employees in the litigation process, if needed.

Responsibilities :

  • Assist with analyzing, monitoring, and resolving risks
  • Recommend appropriate actions for risk mitigation
  • Provide 24/7 on-call support on a rotating basis, where you will respond to inquiries of physicians, clinical leadership, and administrators regarding patient care and loss control issues
  • Develop recommendations through direct contact with physicians, clinical leaders, staff, and administrative personnel
  • Collaborate with clinical leaders to identify and monitor unit trends to develop performance improvement activities, as well as representatives from Patient Safety, QOM, and Family Advocacy departments to provide quality information regarding risk management
  • Investigate, evaluate, and document events and collaborates with departmental leadership determining whether the event is a potentially compensable event
  • Review event reports to determine whether a potential risk management issue exists and notify leadership when it occurs
  • Review medical records and prepare a medical analysis, synopsis, or chronology of events in preparation for possible notification to insurance carriers and potential litigation
  • Work closely with outside legal counsel to assist in discovery and other litigation activities as necessary
  • Develop role-specific and general education programs concerning risk management


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Licensed Registered Nurse from the Texas Board of Nursing
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience
  • Pediatric experience preferred
