Texas Children’s Urgent Care has also expanded to serve the children and families of Austin, Texas, with its first community location in South Austin. Staffed by board-certified pediatricians who have privileges at Texas Children’s Hospital, our Urgent Care team can diagnose and treat a wide variety of common pediatric ailments, illnesses and conditions, including: asthma, strep throat, fever, minor burns, influenza, ear infections, allergic reactions and more. We also provide procedures such as antibiotic injections, breathing treatments, fracture care and splinting, IV (intravenous) fluids, lab services, laceration repair and x-rays on-site.

We are searching for a Certified Med Assistant Urgent Care – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will gather information, assess and provide direct care to patients. You will work collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team to render age appropriate care.

- Assists in the collection of patient/family data that may include biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, and environmental information per practice protocol
- Assists provider, as directed, during treatments, examinations and testing as directed by provider and within scope of practice
- Reports all medication and immunization errors to supervisor immediately after becoming aware of the error
- Charts physician-patient encounters in real-time during medical exams, under the supervision of a provider using the electronic medical record and existing templates
- Generates referral letters for providers, manages and sorts medical documents within the electronic medical record, and assists with e-prescribing
- Provides patient/family education as instructed by the physician or practice protocol
- Assesses patient’s eligibility for referral by verifying coverage with payer prior to initiating referral
- Screens phone calls per practice protocol and within scope of practice standards
- Collects and processes specimen per manufacturer’s instructions and using proper technique
- Maintains certification by fulfilling continuing education (CE) requirements as directed by certification agency
- H.S. Diploma or GED
- Graduation from a medical assisting or emergency medical technician program
- BLS (American Heart Association) and CMA-AAM or RMA, NCMA, CCMA, NRCMA, EMT, EMT-A, EMT-B, EMT-I, EMT-P, LIC PAR licenses and certifications
- At least one year of related experience
- Knowledge of pediatric assessment and treatment
- Knowledge of related OSHA and CLIA/COLA guidelines and requirements, general office tasks, confidentiality and filing system
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to use thermometer, scales, sphygmomanometer/stethoscope, butterfly needles, hearing/vision screening equipment, pulse oximetry, typanometer, basic laboratory equipment, i.e., microscope, centrifuge, hematology analyzer, and specimen collection
- Proficiency with treatments such as nebulizer, ear irrigation, and dressing changes
- Familiarity with all business office machines, i.e., computer, multiline telephone, copier and fax machines
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
