About Texas Children's Hospital

Texas Children’s Specialty Care Centers provide specialized diagnostic care to treat a variety of pediatric diseases and conditions. Specialty Care Centers are staffed by expert Texas Children’s physicians, surgeons, therapists and clinical staff who work closely with a child’s primary-care physician to diagnose health conditions and develop patient-specific treatment plans. The first Texas Children’s Specialty Care location in Austin is now open in the north-central area of the city with nearly a dozen medical and surgical services under one roof, including the following sub-specialties and offerings: allergy and immunology; cardiology; dermatology; gastroenterology; neurology; developmental pediatrics; endocrine; pulmonary; ophthalmology; plastics; urology; and X-ray and ultrasound readings by Texas Children’s pediatric radiologists.  

Summary:

We are looking for a Medical Assistant for our Specialty Clinic in Austin – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide patient care and excellent customer service in our organization’s healthcare setting. To assist in the coordination of flow and provide schedules to effectively manage patient care.

Responsibilities :

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates positive and effective interpersonal skills, communication, and customer service skills
  • Facilitates the appointment check-in procedure
  • Collaborates with clinic staff to ensure efficient patient flow
  • Provides high quality, cost-effective patient care in collaboration with clinicians and in conjunction with the patient/family
  • Collects specimens and performs Point of Care Testing (POCT)
  • Completes check out for patients and families
  • Facilitates patient flow as the scheduling master for the clinic


Qualifications:

Skills & Requirements

  • College degree preferred
  • Knowledge of nursing/medical assistant patient care tasks, the managed care industry, appointment scheduling, related medical terminology and customer service concepts
  • Ability to operate proficiently a personal computer and basic clinic/patient care, office equipment; demonstrate interpersonal skills; demonstrate good verbal communication skills; demonstrate good time management skills and provide excellent customer service skills. The ability to demonstrate quick decision making and self-initiated work behaviors is necessary. Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred
  • CCMA certification from the National Healthcareer Association, or
  • CMA-AAM certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants, or
  • EMT certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services, or
  • EMT-A certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services, or
  • EMT-B certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services, or
  • EMT-I certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services, or
  • EMT-P certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services, or
  • LIC PAR certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services, or
  • EMT-A certification from the Texas Department of State Health Services, or
  • NCMA certification from the National Center for Competency Testing
  • Pediatric experience
