We are searching for a Clinical Nurse Coordinator (Cardiovascular Surgery) – someone to support excellence in clinical practice and the care of patients in accordance with their developmental stages. To coordinate the daily operations of the service by assisting the physicians, promoting the development of other nurse professionals, demonstrating clinical expertise and implementation of the Department's philosophy and standards of nursing practice. To be responsible for the coordination of care for the patient and family as they move across the continuum

• Collaborates with health care team to assist in the assessment of the patient/family throughout the patient’s care. Takes call for any issues that may occur after hours and on weekends.
• Completes nursing assessment of the patient/family including biological, psychological, age appropriate developmental, environmental, cultural and spiritual needs in an organized manner.
• Determines patient needs and priorities for care with special consideration given to patient teaching as documented on the Patient Teaching Record.
• Collaborates with the health care team to develop a plan of care based upon the nursing assessment.
• Implements and documents plan of care, analyzes situations, anticipates problems, and takes an appropriate course of action based upon department’s protocols.
• Evaluates and documents patient and family responses to care provided. Identifies changes and abnormal findings in a timely manner. Ensures patient’s progress toward meeting desired outcomes.
• Formulates, implements, and documents individual teaching plans based on patient/family assessment.
• Uses teaching strategies suitable for the learning ability of patient/family.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of teaching plan and makes updates and modifications needed.
• Identifies interventions for parent/family experiencing anxiety/grief.
• Demonstrates consistent positive interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, and visitors to generate a feeling of trust and caring.
• Maintains ongoing and open communication with the perioperative/cath lab team and other related areas.
• Portrays team spirit with fellow co-workers and departmental personnel.
• Demonstrates ability to resolve conflict resolution with a professional, constructive, and supportive attitude.
• Demonstrates initiative and flexibility by maintaining an active role in identifying and solving problems.
• Coordinates, organizes, and supports all activities by accepting 24 hour availability 7 days a week.
• Acts as a liaison between the department and other institutions
• Participates in continuing education of staff members by facilitating specialty inservices throughout the year.
• Supports the institutional goal of providing quality patient care by visualizing the total “team” concept as it relates to the department. Portrays this team concept to other institutions.
• Bachelor's degree in nursing or associate's degree/diploma in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement
• Current RN license in the state of Texas
• Three (3) years of nursing experience
• The knowledge gained from clinical expertise and experience in Cardiology, ICU, post-operative care, or congenital heart disease.
• The ability to operate all types of equipment and perform special procedures in the assigned nursing area; be flexible to meet the needs of the personnel and unit on a 24 hour basis; demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills; be self-directed and organized; and demonstrate basic computer skills.
