Summary:

We are looking for a Physician Assistant to work PRN for our Surgical Hospitalist specialty, someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. The Surgical Hospitalist handles a wide variety of patients collaborating regularly with other specialty groups supporting a 24/7, 365-day a year department. This position includes inpatient/surgical emergency center consultations, operating room First-Assist, and perioperative coverage. 

 

As a PRN provider you will be required to work 4 plus shifts per month and be able to pick up nights and weekend shifts. Orientation will require additional shifts.

Responsibilities :

  • Provide quality patient care within the education, training and experience of the physician assistant, through delegation of the supervising physician within inpatient, outpatient and operating room settings
  • Work independently to assess, diagnose, treat, and educate patients, consulting with physician as needed
  • Provide appropriate clinical documentation using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system for all patient encounters
  • Perform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations for all patients
  • Participate in daily rounds for pediatric surgery patients
  • Perform minor surgical procedures independently
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, PAs, NPs, nurses and our resident team
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families and clinical team
  • Expedite surgical patients through the emergency room
  • Collaborate with multiple specialties

 



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Current license from Texas Medical Board to practice in the State of Texas
  • Current certification by National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants
  • Two years of surgical or emergency room experience preferred
  • Master’s degree 
  • Current BLS and PALS certification preferred
  • Fundamental knowledge of pediatric assessment and treatment preferred
  • Knowledge of related OSHA, CLIA, and JCAHO guidelines and treatments preferred
