Summary:

We are searching for an Assistant Director Associate of Risk Counsel – someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will support the Director with the oversight of risk financing and insurance claims and will be responsible for major legal functions of our client. You will provide counsel, as appropriate for insurance provisions and contractual agreements entered into by our client; you will also work with and serve as our client’s liaison to outside counsel, as appropriate. Additionally, you will participate in meetings and serve on committees as appropriate.

Responsibilities :

  • Assists Director by providing legal counsel to management, executives, and medical staff of our client
  • Responds to requests/inquiries from local, state, and federal agencies
  • Assists Director with the management of litigation as it relates to insurance claims
  • Performs review and revision of contractual agreements as it relates to our client’s insurance coverage and risk exposure
  • Actively participates in hospital committee meetings, subcommittees, and ad-hoc meetings as directed
  • Communicates effectively with our client’s executives and management regarding legal implications of business strategies, policies, procedures, and current insurance coverages
  • Supervises, manages, and directs the work of risk financing and claims
  • Participates in departmental activities as assigned
  • Reviews invoices relating to insurance coverages and related legal matters
  • Assists the Director with departmental budget activities
  • May carry a pager and serve as Risk on call
  • Ensures that Joint Commission requirements specific to your department are fulfilled but also understand the linkage between your department’s requirements and those of the integrated delivery system
  • Collaborates with colleagues in other departments to ensure all Joint Commission requirements are met


Qualifications:

  • JD required
  • License to practice law in Texas required
  • 2 years’ experience advising large corporations either at a law firm or in-house required
  • Experience providing legal counsel to tax exempt organizations preferred
  • Experience with insurance claims preferred (auto, property, workers' compenstation, cyber, etc)
