We are searching for a Coding Quality Assurance Specialist III - someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you’ll assign and audit the accuracy of codes to ambulatory, emergency center, observation, and day surgery records for the purpose of billing, research, and providing information to government and regulatory agencies. You will also ascertain the accuracy of the physicians’ E/M and procedure coding to their documentation and complete the auditing reporting tool and provide feedback to the education team and/or provider.

Responsibilities :

  • Review and interpret physician documentation to appropriately assign diagnosis and procedure codes
  • Communicate with and provide feedback to the education team and/or providers
  • Review patient charges to determine necessary coding to complete the account
  • Identify the principle and secondary diagnoses as well as procedure codes from the electronic medical record
  • Utilize the encoder to generate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and/or CPT codes for diagnosis and procedures
  • Sequence diagnoses and procedures to generate appropriate billing, and query physicians to obtain a diagnosis if not provided in the records
  • Provide ICD-10 and CPT for physician research projects and quality reporting purposes
  • Check discharge disposition and attending physician for correctness
  • Complete neonatal information regarding birth weight, gestational age, TPN, ECMO, and number of ventilator days
  • Identify incorrect admit/discharge dates and incorrect patient type


  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • CCA, CCS, CCS-P, CIPC, COC, CPC, CRC, RHIA, or RHIT certification required
  • 4 years’ experience in coding required
  • Experience using an encoder and electronic medical record preferred
