We are looking for a Staff Attorney -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will support the Director in providing legal counsel and guidance to our organization and its affiliated entities, interact with state and federal agencies as appropriate, provide counsel regarding contractual arrangements, serve as a liaison to outside counsel, participate in meetings, and serve on committees as appropriate. You will also lead and support other matters as assigned by the Director.

Responsibilities :


  • Research, investigate, and remediate legal and risk issues, as assigned by the Director
  • Provide staff with legal counsel and guidance regarding clinical, legal, and risk management issues
  • Assess potential liability and advise leadership on hospital and institutional legal and risk management issues
  • Assure institutional and staff compliance with state and federal laws by drafting, reviewing, and revising internal policies and procedures
  • Manage all aspects of third party witness subpoenas for trial and deposition testimony, including witness preparation and coordination with outside counsel
  • Manage all aspects of healthcare litigation, including discovery, witness preparation, review and revision of various motions, and coordination with outside counsel
  • Provide assistance and work with other attorneys in the department on various projects, as assigned by the Director
  • Participate in other activities and committees, as assigned by the Director
  • Act as on-call general healthcare risk counsel for the institution on a rotating basis


  • JD degree required
  • 2 years’ legal experience required
  • License to practice law in the state of Texas is required. If you do not have a Texas law license, you must have and maintain a license to practice law in another state and get licensed in the state of Texas within 18 months of hire.
  • Experience working within a healthcare system preferred
  • Experience managing healthcare litigation docket preferred
