Summary:

We are searching for a Physician Assistant or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Acute Care Certified -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will practice in an advanced role to provide developmentally-appropriate and age-appropriate health maintenance for population focused specialty. Practicing under established guidelines and clinical protocols, the PA/NP assumes independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of treatment and procedures. The PA/NP is responsible for education, research, consultation, and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels

Responsibilities :

Physician Assistant: 

  • Utilizes advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data, and to manage a caseload of patients
  • Prescribes or administers medications as delegated by the supervising physician and documents in medical records
  • Orders diagnostic tests consistent with differential diagnoses derived from gathered data as evidenced by types of tests ordered
  • Implements or modifies treatment plan based upon results of diagnostic studies as evidenced in medical record
  • Identifies and documents patient/family learning needs, readiness to learn, and level of understanding, incorporating family culture and belief systems on all patients
  • Collaborates with colleagues in the initiation, development, and implementation of research studies
  • Enhances clinical knowledge by reading professional literature, attending staff development, and continuing education programs regularly
  • Evaluates departmental quality and safety initiative data related to an implementation of a change in clinical practice and make further recommendations as indicated

Nurse Practitioner:

  • Daily utilizes advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data, and to manage a caseload of patients
  • Consistently demonstrates effective communication skills and works to eliminate communication barriers
  • Consistently serves as an educational resource for the patient and family, community, and other health care professionals
  • Communicates research findings to other health care professionals as observed by evaluation of written reports
  • Maintains knowledge base by reading professional literature and attending staff development and continuing education programs annually
  • Develops and updates a delegation protocol in collaboration with a physician specific to the pediatric specialty
  • Participates in at least one QI aspect of care, which shows improvement, related to patient outcome


Qualifications:

Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 is required for all employees at Texas Children’s, unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.

Physician Assistant:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • PA certification from the Texas Medical Board required

Nurse Practitioner:

  • Master’s degree in nursing required
  • RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact required
  • FNP, NNP, PNP-BC, WHNP-BC, CPNP-AC, or AG-ACNP from the Texas Board of Nursing required
  • CPNP-AC preferred
