Summary:

We are searching for a Registered Nurse (RN) — someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you'll provide direct and telephone nursing care, health teaching, patient advocacy, coordination of care, and the coordination of services required for patients outside the clinical setting. We need someone who can provide family-centered care to a culturally diverse population in a manner that is age and developmentally appropriate.

Responsibilities :

  • Assist in the collection of patient/family data that may include biophysical, psychosocial, developmental, cultural, and environmental information
  • Collect and document vital signs including fetal height and fetal heart rate, height/weight, and the reason for visit
  • Document current medications, allergies, and whether refills have been obtained
  • Inform the family of their care plan for that particular visit and anticipate any questions or concerns
  • Identify patients’ needs pertaining to patient teaching, discharge planning, growth and development, nutritional screening, functional status, and pain management
  • Assist the provider as directed during treatments and examinations
  • Handle telephone advice from families and call in prescription refills as needed
  • Assess patient and/or family for knowledge of NST procedure and testing rationale
  • Palpate uterus and assess uterine activity and perform antenatal testing including non-stress tests and biophysical profiles


Qualifications:

Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 is required for all employees at Texas Children’s, unless approved for a medical or religious exemption.

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing, Associate’s degree in Nursing, or other diploma in Nursing (Bachelor’s preferred)
  • Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the state of Texas
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association required
  • 1 year of professional nursing experience preferred
  • Bilingual-Spanish preferred
  • Previous experience in Pediatrics preferred
  • Previous experience in Urgent Care, ER and/or Outpatient Clinic preferred 
  • Knowledge of nursing functions, basic anatomy and physiology, and diagnostic procedures
  • Ability to demonstrate and perform generic and unit-based/critical competencies
