Summary:

We are searching for a Physician Assistant or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Acute Care Certified -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position, you will provide developmentally appropriate and age-appropriate health maintenance for well children, episodic care for ill children, and comprehensive care for children with chronic conditions including independent and interdependent responsibilities in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of treatment and procedures. The PA or NP is involved in education, consultation, research, and evaluation of clinical practice at various levels. 

 

This role includes inpatient and outpatient responsibilities and no operating room.

Responsibilities :

Physician Assistant:

  • Utilizes advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data, and to manage a caseload of patients
  • Assesses the patient’s physical status through the physical examination, as documented in the patient’s chart
  • Collaborates effectively with other members of the health care disciplines to provide comprehensive care to patients
  • Analyzes multiple sources of data and formulates a differential diagnosis in collaboration with physicians, as demonstrated in the written documentation.
  • Utilizes effective and appropriate interviewing skills to elicit information from patient and/or family and collaborates with them in the development of the plan of care
  • Identifies, and documents patient/family learning needs, readiness to learn, and level of understanding, incorporating family culture and belief systems on all patients
  • Collaborates with colleagues in the initiation, development, and implementation of research studies
  • Maintains knowledge base by reading professional literature and attending at least 2 staff development and continuing education programs annually
  • Demonstrates PA role behaviors consistent with the development of role.

Nurse Practitioner: 

  • Daily utilizes advanced practice knowledge and skills to systematically collect and evaluate health assessment data, and to manage a caseload of patients
  • Consistently demonstrates effective communication skills and works to eliminate communication barriers
  • Consistently serves as an educational resource for the patient and family, community, and other health care professionals
  • Communicates research findings to other health care professionals as observed by evaluation of written reports
  • Maintains knowledge base by reading professional literature and attending staff development and continuing education programs annually
  • Develops and updates a delegation protocol in collaboration with a physician specific to the pediatric specialty
  • Participates in at least one QI aspect of care, which shows improvement, related to patient outcome

 



Qualifications:

Physician Assistant:

  • Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 is required for all employees unless approved for a medical or religious exemption
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • PA certification from the Texas Medical Board required
  • 2 years pediatric patient care experience preferred

Nurse Practitioner:

  • Being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 is required for all employees unless approved for a medical or religious exemption
  • Master’s degree in nursing required
  • RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing or Nursing Licensure Compact required
  • FNP, NNP, PNP-BC, WHNP-BC, CPNP-AC, or AG-ACNP from the Texas Board of Nursing required
  • CPNP-AC preferred
