We’re looking for a VAD Coordinator, someone who’s ready to grow with our company. In this position, you’ll be responsible for the coordination of inpatient and outpatient care for patients with a ventricular assist device. This coordination includes but is not limited to patient education, staff education, surgical coordination, clinic visits, data collection and record keeping for regulatory and research purposes.
Qualifications:
• Required (1) bachelor’s degree in nursing or (2) associate’s degree in nursing or related field accepted by the Texas Board of Nursing for the purposes of obtaining and maintaining an RN license or (3) technical diploma in nursing with current enrollment in a BSN program and a signed agreement to obtain a BSN
• Required certifications: RN - Lic-Registered Nurses and BLS - Cert-Basic Life Support
• Required at least 3 years of experience in cardiovascular nursing, cardiac surgical nursing, critical care nursing, cardiac transplantation and/or care of patients with ventricular assist device.
• Critical Care ICU experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
• Attends daily rounds on LVAD inpatients
• Provides in-house LVAD patient care, etc. (i.e. dressing changes)
• Provides preoperative and post operative education to patient and family in collaboration with nursing staff
• Develops and utilizes patient educational guidelines for each device
• Provides support and education to nursing staff, house staff, other health professionals and community health care professionals who will have contact with the patient
• Educates on how to troubleshoot alerts and alarms
• Collects data required by the hospital, the FDA, and other regulatory bodies related to implanted devices and submit to the appropriate agency(ies)
• Collaborates with Patient Financial Representatives (PFRs) about insurance coverage for the device prior to surgery
• Writes letters, collects required clinical data, and submits information to Case Manager of insurance provider for approval
• Collaborates with physicians and others to identify areas for prospective and retrospective research
• Helps prepare research studies, patient consents, and amendments for Institutional Review Board (IRB) review and approval.
