We are searching for a Referral Specialist -- someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. This position will coordinate the referral process and work collectively with other members of the healthcare team.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
Initiates and processes referral. Completes paperwork and documentation for authorized referrals within two (2) business days. Enters referrals into electronic health record within two (2) business days of receiving request from provider. Assists patients, per practice protocol, in setting appointments for referred services. Assists patients, per practice protocol, who have emergencies or have self-referred without prior authorization. Receives less than three (3) customer service complaints during evaluation period. Tasks are measured by review of referral log and the electronic health record.
Verifies patient eligibility. Assesses patient’s eligibility for referral by verifying coverage with payer prior to initiating referral. Documents eligibility in the electronic health record per practice protocol. Identifies and documents network providers for appropriate referral. Notifies provider when no provider in network is available. Tasks are measured by reviewing referral documentation in the electronic health record and feedback from providers.
Documents referral process. Maintains referral log, in the electronic health record, including documentation that patient was notified with 90% accuracy. Assures reports from referral sources are received, reviewed by provider and scanned according to practice protocol. Tasks are measured by review of referral log and the electronic health record.
Demonstrates Creating SMILES and AIDET philosophies to patients, families, and co-workers. Acknowledges the customer. Introduce self. Gives customer a time expectation. Keeps customers informed by explaining all tasks, processes, and procedures. Thanks, customer. Adheres to Standards of Behavior. Tasks are measured by observation of evaluator.
Skills & Requirements
Required H.S. Diploma or GED
Required 1 year healthcare experience
