Unforgettable Paris: A Welcoming Voice at Texas Children’s

When you meet Paris Jones, the first thing you’ll notice is his infectious energy. This quality, in addition to his enthusiastic dedication to our organization and passion for serving others, makes him a standout in our admissions department and the ideal team member to greet patients when they first enter the doors of Texas Children’s Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.

Discovering a Multifaced Career at Texas Children’s

Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Paris moved to Texas in 2013, starting his journey in San Antonio. As a manager at the San Marcos Treatment Center, a residential healthcare center for children and adolescents, Paris ensured youth with behavioral health needs received the care they needed. He learned of Texas Children’s when he accompanied one of his patients to our hospital for care. “I fell in love with the vibrant atmosphere of collaboration, innovation, and unwavering dedication to caring for children in need,” he recalls.

Paris joined Texas Children’s in 2016 as a PRN (as-needed) patient sitter, working a few times a week.  “My work ethic and how I worked with the patients was noticed,” Paris explains. His roles evolved from patient sitter to physical therapist technician, and later to a nursing proctor. By 2019, he had moved to our Specialty Care in Sugarland as an ambulatory service representative.

However, Paris’s journey took an unexpected turn in 2020 when he fell seriously ill due to COVID-19. He had to resign from Texas Children’s, but his commitment to serving others never wavered. Following his recovery, he became a flight attendant for Skywest Airlines, an experience that honed his customer service skills and gave him a global perspective. “Being a flight attendant allowed me to see more than just my backyard,” he says. This exposure to different cultures and backgrounds helps Paris appreciate and work effectively with the diverse community at our hospital.

Returning with a Heart Full of Compassion

In 2023, Paris rejoined our Admissions team, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a renewed sense of purpose as a welcoming face and ambassador for Texas Children’s. His commitment to excellence is evident in his interactions with patients and their families.

Paris recalls a memorable encounter with an international patient from Abu Dhabi. Despite the language barrier, he went above and beyond to ensure the patient and her mother had a smooth experience. “I took it upon myself to come from behind my desk, escort her personally to her appointments, and made sure she was okay,” he recounts.

Paris’s compassion and dedication to serving our patients with empathy is deeply rooted in his spirituality and his belief in the greater good. “It’s a deep fire on the inside and a strong spiritual connection with God, who shows us love,” he explains. This spiritual foundation fuels his dedication to his work and his desire to embody The Difference at our hospital for everyone he encounters.

The Sound of Success

As a youth, Paris developed a love for performing arts as a student at Cleveland School of the Arts, where he was introduced to all genres of music and Broadway musicals. In 2004, he took his shot at stardom on the televised singing competition American Idol, making it through multiple rounds of untelevised auditions. Paris continues to sing, mostly in his church, and though he’s not yet the Disney voiceover artist he once dreamed of becoming, he appreciates Texas Children’s partnership with Disney connects his health care career to his passion for spreading joy through entertainment.

As Paris continues his journey at Texas Children’s, he is also pursuing higher education in healthcare administration, with aspirations of advancing to leadership. “I do see myself retiring from here,” he says confidently. “You have to go after success, and you can’t be afraid to ask questions or provide ideas to make things better.”

Paris ensures that every person who walks through the doors of Texas Children’s feels welcomed, supported and cared for, making him an inspiration for every team member at our hospital. In his own words, “You have to love what you do.” And Paris undoubtedly loves what he does, making Texas Children’s a better place for everyone.
