We are searching for a Service Coordinator (RN) Surgical Services — someone support excellence in clinical practice and the care of patients in accordance with their developmental stages. The Service Coordinator will help in the daily operations of the service by assisting the Managers by promoting the development of other nursing professionals, demonstrating clinical expertise, and implementation of the departmental standards of nursing practice.

Think you have what it takes? 

  • Operating Room Circulator experience
  • Knowledge of nursing functions, basic anatomy and physiology, and surgical procedures
  • ok with weekday schedule of 7am -3:30pm

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, or Associates/Technical Degree in nursing and enrolled in a BSN program
  • Registered Nurse from the Texas Board of Nursing
  • BLS from the American Heart Association 
  • 1yr and 6 months operating room experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • 5 yr. circulator nurse experience

Responsibilities

  • Collects data from patient, family, laboratory, and other medical reports according to guidelines as documented on the Preoperative/Holding Area Assessment form.
  • Completes nursing assessment of the patient/family including biological, psychological, age appropriate developmental, environmental, cultural, and spiritual needs in an organized and systematic manner as documented on the Preoperative/Holding Area Assessment and Intraoperative Nursing Record as observed by the supervisor.
  • Facilitates the coordination of the surgical team (Scrub Nurse, Surgeon, and Anesthesiologist) as documented on the Intraoperative Nursing Record.
  • Determines which standard of care and/or practice apply to the patient as observed by the supervisor.
  • Prioritizes patient care based on new information as observed by the supervisor.
  • Uses teaching strategies suitable for the learning ability of the patient/family as observed by supervisor.
  • Considers developmental age in approach to and preparation of child.
  • Positions and handles child based on an understanding of developmental age.
  • Implements safety measures that are appropriate to developmental age. Recognizes the importance of patient safety by participating in the Universal Protocol.
  • Uses age-appropriate equipment and supplies.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of teaching plan and makes updates and modifications needed as observed by supervisor.
  • Responds with care that respects the patient/family personal value and belief systems.
  • Promotes confidentiality concerning patient/family care issues.
  • Portrays and promotes team spirit with fellow workers and Departmental personnel as observed by supervisor.
  • Demonstrates ability to handle conflict resolution with a professional, constructive, and supportive attitude; facilitates conflict resolution among staff as observed by supervisor.
  • Communicates delays or changes in the surgery schedule to the Charge Nurse.
  • Oversees the delegation of specifics of care plan to licensed and unlicensed staff.
  • Accurately documents charges for basic and specialty supplies according to protocol, e.g., implants, etc. and teaches effective cost containment to appropriate staff members.
  • Demonstrates adaptability to ongoing changes within the unit an Communicates delays or changes in the surgery schedule to the Charge Nurse.
